sipgate supports the open source SIP standard, so you can use any regular SIP-compliant phone or even your old landline handset by plugging it into a VoIP adapter. sipgate also allows you to use multiple phones at the same time (even in different locations). While you’re on the go, you might also want to make and receive calls using your notebook or iPhone using sipgate with a free softphone.

One universal phone number for life
A buddylist is no replacement for a real phone number. So we decided, unlike most VoIP providers, to give all of our customers a real telephone number for life – and it won’t cost you a dime. With a real phone number people can call you, even people that aren't on your buddylist, like your potential new boss, your landlord or the woman that calls to tell you that you’ve won the lottery. Most VoIP providers don't give you a number, they give you a username. That requires everyone to use the same voice chat system, and to spend most of the day staring at their screen - otherwise you simply can't talk to each other.But, with a phone number, virtually anyone can call you from anywhere in the world. Emergency Calling
sipgate provides basic 911 coverage nationwide and E911 emergency service where available. Always make sure you let sipgate know the physical location of your phone. You will be prompted to provide your address information during sign-up. If this address is not accurate or if you move to another location, even temporarily, you must update your location on our website. If your US address location is not accurately listed on record, emergency services will not be able to locate you if you are unable to tell them your address or if you are disconnected – even in areas where E911 services area are available. So yes: sipgate provides emergency service, but we rely solely on the information you provide us with. Please, don’t put yourself or your loved ones in danger.
